I cannot express enough how important Isis was to the ancient Egyptians. She was the most worshiped goddess in Egypt. Her influence continued through the Greek rule of Egypt and eventually into the Roman period.
The name Isis is Greek, but the Egyptians called her Aset, meaning the “Queen of the Throne”. She is often depicted with a throne on her head and as a winged goddess, illustrating her power. Sometimes, she is seen wearing the headdress of disk with horns, attributed to Goddess Hathor. In this case, Isis has assimilated the traits of Hathor, a goddess of love and joy.
Isis was the sister and wife of God Osiris, ruler of the underworld and mother to their son Horus. The most famous story is of Isis re-assembling the dismembered body parts of her husband after he was slain by Seth, the jealous brother of Osiris. Thus revealing the powerful healing ability of Isis!
Isis was know have many different powers; love, fertility, protection of women, and a bringer of magic. She is the ultimate representation of mother, divine feminine intelligence and wisdom.
